This is the Funder and Lightning I have been fooling with over the weeks. Aileron and elevator only controls. Brian flew this. Ailerons are still my kryptonite. Definitly needs more overall aileron and elevator control surface. I'm working on that now. Just thought I'd show what it looks like when there is minimal control. Also can you see the really STUPID thing I over looked? (hint: it's by the battery)

E-sky King 3

From the better-late-than-never dept...

I was just browsing JAGHobbies.com for a part on my E-sky King 2 helicopter when I noticed the King 3! It's up for PRE-sale at the moment.

Judging from the specs, it looks like the King 3 is E-sky's response to the
popular Blade 400. The King 3 comes with a brushless motor, brushless ESC, a headlock gyro (looks like it's an updated version), 4 digital servos, a 3s 1500mAh LiPo, and a 2.4GHz radio system.

Some structural things of note, "improved whole rotor head design", "improved tail rotor control system", and the motor mount area has been strengthened. Definite areas that were in need of improvement on the King 2. From the photo, it looks like an aluminum swash is peeking out too.

I would venture to say that given the Blade 400, and now the King 3, the new heli enthusiast has excellent options to get into collective pitch helis. No more rate gyros, glitchy radio systems, or tail motors.

Looks pretty cool.
http://jaghobbies.com/rc_planes/hbk3.htm

Some Funster and Lightning build shots

Just some shots of my next project. This one is of the Funster and Lightning that I got off of the RCGroups site. Lot of fun so far. I've actually gone from 2 aileron servos used to just one servo. Notice the linkage from the servo to the ailerons. It tested out with no problems at all. This plane only uses aileron and elevator control along with throttle.

SKYPE has been added

It's now easy as ever to give us a SKYPE call. Just click on the skype button right below the email button on the right part of this page------->

More info on getting and using SKYPE to call in while we are recording our show is below.

If anybody would like to get on the show for a minute or so to talk about a construction hint, a new favorite plane, or maybe you want to plug a great site you have dealt with recently, we'd like to get you on.

You'll need to download a program called www.SKYPE.com. Very easy to install and register. It costs no money to use. You will need a microphone and headphone, or combination of both, to be able to contact us. SKYPE on its own is great just to talk to your friends also. When you get it installed, just do a search for frankrcfc and add that name to your contact list. OR you can give us a number where we can call you and get you on that way also.

We do the show every Monday night at 9:00PM till 10:00PM EST sharp (that's New York time). Just give us about 15 minutes to get the show rolling. Hey, if it works, great! If not, we could always say it should have, right?

Thanks for giving it a try if you do get through!

SuperFly!

As requested, we'll start posting some of the junk- er, great stuff we're working on. Since we've recently been messing around with the SuperFly kits, here they are!

Frank's Superfly. Please don't steal this paint scheme ;)

Superfly1
Superfly2
Superfly3
Jeep O' stuff

Brian's SuperFly.

Parts used:
Stock TowerPro motor with the SuperFly kit
Prop adapter stolen from poor EasyStar - prop adapters that are always in demand are on order!
Stock GWS HD prop with the SuperFly kit
HeadsUpRC.com Power Up "it's-all-I-had-spare-20A-overkill-for-SuperFly" ESC
Futaba 2.4GHz receiver
Very pricy Towerpro SG90 9g servos (over $2.99)

The foam bits were cut out with a soldering iron against a metal ruler. Pretty basic layout. I cut the ESC and motor wires as short as possible, yet I still ended up with a rat's nest! If you cut your brushless motor or ESC wires, make sure to cut them as even length as possible. I've been on a hardwiring binge lately, simply soldering my motor wires instead of messing around with finding bullet connectors. Either way, you have to solder.

When gluing down parts, if they have stickers, make sure to take them off. I'd rather glue to a large plastic case surface than the small sticker possibly not so well glued to said plastic case.

Hot melt glue was the only adhesive used. We finally got the hot glue hinges worked out on my kit after Frank messed his kit up. :) Prototype! Muhaha.

I tossed out the "canopy" EPP foam piece and mounted a velcro strap along with a few small pieces of velcro to grip the velcro on the battery pack. I'm not much for paint jobs, as you can see!

When joining the wing halves with hot glue, make sure to lay down some waxpaper or at least some clear plastic. Part of the piece of wood laminate we used as a workbench stuck to the bottom of the plane when the glue smooshed out of the bottom. I figured this would happen but I was too lazy to put anything underneath it. I applied the hot glue pretty liberally for the wing halves.

I had this paint job first, despite what Frank says. :)

The throws I have setup on this thing are insane. I have them backed way down in the transmitter. For your first flight, less control rate (D/R) than you think you'll need is best. Hand launches are slow and easy. My CG is setup nicely. I was surprised how well the prop spins to a flat position when landing and doesn't break off. No prop saver needed- I'll save those for my 3D foamies.

Happy SuperFlying!
